The World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation,
an international scientific society and a multidisciplinary professional
organization with a rich history of more than twenty years in the
global field of Psychosocial Rehabilitation of chronically mentally
ill persons and mental health, welcomes you to our Xth World Congress
of Psychosocial Rehabilitation in 2009
This congress will be held in Bangalore, India, and it is the first
Congress of WAPR outside Europe and the Americas. The dates are 12to
15 November 2009 and the venue the National Institute of Mental Health
and Neurosciences in Bangalore.
The World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation, a recognized
Non-Governmental Organization with consultative status, with the
United Nations,the World Health Organization and the International
Labor Office, maintaining also close relations with the European
commission, the African Rehabilitation Institute and other international
agencies, has celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Athens, Greece
in the IXth World Congress in October 2006 and now is moving to
Asia and the next time to Africa, trying to bridge diverse cultures,
care and research experiences, socio-political policies and practices,
as well in the area of psychosocial rehabilitation.
The theme chosen for this Congress “ Psychosocial Rehabilitation:
One World- Quest for integration”, puts an emphasis on the
crucial and ongoing issue of social integration of all people with
a chronic mental illness, impaired or disabled, with full citizenship
and optimal level of functioning.
It is time to stay critical in front of practices not promoting
community integration world wide, fighting the stigma of mental
illness.
